So Bioware is making the new MMO, Star Wars The Old Republic, and I must say I’m hopeful.  Bioware is a great company and has pushed out some really great games in the past (KOTOR anyone?).  Lets keep our fingers crossed :)

Good Bye WoW

Posted in Game World, Personal on April 21st, 2007 by Josh – 4 Comments

I’ve been playing World Of Warcraft for almost a year now. Kinda crazy to think that I’ve played one game for over 10 months and not get tired of it. However, all good things must come to an end. Why did I quit? Family and time. I love the game however when you get to the “end-game” it just requires too much time. Seeing as how my free time is a commodity as it is, I’d rather spend it with my family. So to all WoW friends out there, I bid you adieu.

I saw this on Digg and thougt it was worth sharing. It would be great if they made a game with this type of animation.

Cooking with Sony

Most people use a grill of some type, charcol or gas, to cook their steaks.  Some people use a pan or skillet.  I want to be like this guy and use a PS3.

Battlefield 2

“Josh, you have to get this game. All of us play it and we’re having a LAN party on Saturday.” Why not I though to myself. EA did just release a combo pack with BF2 and the expansion pack for about $10-15 off the ala carte price. After installing and playing the game I can see now why my co-workers like the game. Great graphics, good contols, realistic battles (as much as possible for a game), and just really fun. The only compliant that I have is with the rank/reward system. In BF2 you gain rank by gaining points, which makes sense. However “team killers” can gain points for rewards by killing their own team mates. That just makes no sense. Essentaily EA allows for “stats padding” too where a person keeps performing a single task over and over again to gain points instead of actually helping out the team. Despite these quirks, the game is great. Buy it if you haven’t already.

WOW I’m Addicted

I purchased World Of Warcraft about two weeks ago and all I can say is WOW (punn intended).  My first impression of MMORPGs was from Ever Crack…er Ever Quest.  Let’s just say that I didn’t want to be associated with “those people.”  After all, they would spend more hours in a day playing a game than working, sleeping, or anything else.  With that kind of negative image who would want to play MMORPGs?

About a year ago I purchased Guild Wars while I was traveling.  I figured that since I’m away from home, I have time to spare to play/try an MMO.  While I liked Guild Wars, I wasn’t really into it.  Most likely because I didn’t have any friends on at the same time.  A year later I decided to try it again and for about a month I’ve had fun with it.  Wasn’t “blow me away” but it was fun.  Some of my friends suggested WOW so after contimplating the idea of paying a monthly fee to play a game I decided to try it for a month.

To my surprise, I have been blown away by WOW.  It just offers so much content, my friends are on it, and it’s just a lot of fun.  I’m now asking myself, “why oh why did you not buy this game before now?”  If you haven’t played it, try it.

Too Much Time

I check out Google Video just about everyday to see whats out there and I stumbled across a couple of videos that I thought you might like.  You know people have too much time on thier hands when they make movies of Pac-Man, Street Fighter 2, and Super Mario Brothers.  I “sware by the ancient Kanomi code” that you’ll find these videos funny if you’ve ever played the game.

E3 is in full swing right now and if you’ve never heard of it, stop living under a rock! At E3 Sony announced it’s plans for the PS3. As read from the 1UP.com article,

The next-generation console will come in two models — but both will include a hard drive, unlike Xbox 360. The base model will retail at $499 with 20 GIG HD. Those with a little extra disposable cash can pick up a premium version loaded with a 60G GIG HD for $599 at launch this November.

Lets see, $500 starting price to play games…right.  The most common argument that I’ve heard arguing for the $500 cost is that “it’s BlueRay!”  OK.  Its BlueRay.  Its also $500 dollars!  Sure, BlueRay is superiour to HD-DVD however HD-DVD appeals to many people where it matters, their wallet!  I’d like for BlueRay to dominate, however the price tag will undoubtly be their undoing.  Beta anyone?

Oh, I almost forgot.  Nintendo’s Wii is going to sell for around $250, at least that’s according to an article in EGM.  I must admit I was perplexed when Nintendo changed the name of the console from Revolution to Wii however you just gotta love the saying, “hand me a Wiimote and let’s play ___”.

Kingdom Hearts II Finished

Posted in Game World on April 26th, 2006 by Josh – Be the first to comment

I beat it last night.  I was honestly surprised how easy it was to beat it on normal mode.  The final boss when playing the original game on normal mode was a 4 part battle where it was easy, really easy, fricken hard, and then moderate.  Kingdom Hearts II final battle was a 5 part battle that when easy, easy, really easy, moderate, and finished with a hard battle.  Don’t get me wrong, the game was and still is a great game.  I’m giong to start a new game on the hardest difficulty which should provide more of a challenge.  That is after I beat Sephiroth.  I battled him a couple of times last night at a lower level and got my a$$ handed to me.  I’ve leveled up since then so we’ll see.

Kingdom Hearts II

I’ve been playing Kingdom Hearts II a lot lately and I must say that this is a sequel that completely blows away the original. Don’t get me wrong, I love and still play the original Kingdom Hearts, it’s a great game. But Kingdom Hearts II just rocks! The camera angles that plague the original are but a thing of the past, the graphics are top notch, game play is nearly flawless, and the action is on steroids! It’s really that good of a game. If you’ve never played the original you may be a little lost with the story however it does a good job not leaving you in the dark. Play the original if you haven’t done so, you won’t be disappointed. Check out the review on 1up.
