Why Remake a Classic?

Sometimes you just need to leave the classics alone….  Sure Hollywood hasn’t really come up with an original movie in a LONG time but the Karate Kid?  Seriously!  Apple Trailers has a link to the new Karate Kid movie.  I think part of me died when I saw Jackie Chan is playing the role of Mr. Miyagi.  Don’t get me wrong, I like Jackie Chan but this is border line sacrilegious!

Ghost Rider

I had heard that they were making a Ghost Rider movie and the rumors said that Nic Cage was in it.  Looks like the rumors are true.  Let’s just hope that this is better than the Punisher and the Hulk.

Bond. James Bond.

Well, here it is. The trailer for the new James Bond movie, Casino Royale. I enjoy the James Bond movies as much as the next guy. There are great movies with great actors such as Sean Connery, Roger Moore, and yes even Pierce Brosnan. At the same time there have been some horrible Bond movies out there. On Her Majesty’s Secret Service anyone? Now we have Daniel Craig as Bond. I don’t know if this is a good thing or a bad thing. The Bond series is old and needs to be done away with to maintain some form of dignity. I can only hope that Casino Royale doesn’t kill the series.

American History X

Believe it or not but I, until recently, have never seen American History X all the way through. I’ve seen parts of it when it was on TV and I knew of its background but I’ve just never seen it. Well, one of Stephanie’s co-workers let us borrow the movie and it’s everything I thought it would be. I will say to those that have never seen it, it’s rated R for a reason. Spoilers ahead.

The 40 Year Old Virgin

Last night Stephanie and I watched The 40 Year Old Virgin.  I’ve heard that the movie was good but a little vulgar.  That is an understatement.  The movie was funny but very vulgar.  My expectations where something more American Pie-ish where the guys are trying to get laid but go through some funny sense and there’s mild language.  The 40 Year Old Virgin made no such effort to tone it down.  I hear more “f__ this” and “f__ that” than on an episode of the Ozbornes!  I was ROFL during most of the movie but like I said, it could have been just as funny without all the cursing.  In movies there are two types of cursing.  Cursing during the moment due to whats going on and cursing just for cursing sake.  The 40 Year Old Virgin was cursing just for the sake of cursing….

The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe

Last night Steph and I went to go see The Chronicles of Narnia. I knew nothing about the series except that it was written by C.S. Lewis, a Christian author. Steph on the other hand has read most of the books a long time ago. IMHO the movie was well done and worth seeing. It reminded me a lot of the Lord of the Rings movies with the mythical creatures and the whole good versus bad theme. One thing however that stood out the most was the direct symbolism to Christianity. As I mentioned earlier, C.S. Lewis is a Christian author so I expected some symbolism however there was more symbolism in this movie that I expected.

Final Fantasy VII Advent Children

As you may or may not know FFVIIAC was leaked on the web last weekend. I managed to download it and it is awesome. The movie is in Japanese and the only subtitles are also Japanese but I still loved it. If you liked FFVII and are a fan of action movies this is a must buy. I won’t go into any details because I don’t want to spoil it for anyone, but believe me, you’ll love it.
