Down Time To Combat Spam

Lately I’ve been receiving a lot of spam.  Most of the time this is not a problem however the spam that I’ve been receiving appears to be from an internal source.  In an attempt to find where this is coming from I’ve taken the forum, wiki, and contact page down.  If the problem continues in my attempt to find what’s going on I might take the blog down for a little while.  More to follow.

The Internet Is Full.

It’s funny because it’s true.

Gentoo’ing It

Some of you may recall that I my hard drive crashed last month and left me high and dry. When I got my new hard drive in I also got a new one for my laptop. I originally installed WinXP on my laptop but that only lasted about a week. I used to have Gentoo Linux on my laptop and felt the need to re-install it again. I must say that after a long hiatus, a year, Gentoo has gotten much much better. The installation was great, all drivers were loaded by default, and maybe it’s me but portage seems a little cleaner too. I just finished installing Gnome so if you’ll excuse me I have a desktop to setup.

PS3 - When/What Will You Be?

The PS3 will be an HD Blue-Ray home media center giant complete with a hard drive and wireless capabilities and be ready for Christmas of 2005
The PS3 will not have a hard drive when released.
The PS3 will not have wireless capabilities when released and it will cost around $800 and will not be coming out in Christmas of 2005.
The PS3 will include wireless capabilities.
The PS3 will not have wireless capabilities excpet through an add on and the console will cost around $500 and won’t come out until spring 2006.
The PS3…. you get the point.

The Reuters, along with a lot of other sources, is reporting that once again Sony  might be delaying the release of the PS3 and  who knows what they’ll be cutting out and how much it will cost this time.

CRAP!!!

It’s my fault realy.  I didn’t make ample backups and I lost everything.  DreamHost has this “one click install” thing that is nothing more than a little script that goes and installs different apps for you; WordPress, PHPBB, MediaWiki, etc.  I originaly used the one click install to set up the blog on my root directory.  Later I decided to more the blog to /blog.  No big deal.  It was painless and seemless to everyone.  Recently DreamHosts’s one click install mentioned that it had updates for the blog.  I told it to update and it put brand new files in my root directory where the blog was at first.  Then being the bone head that I am I decided to delete the WordPress instance of one click install.  Coincidently that removed everything in and under the folder that it was installed to.  Thus everything in my web root folder was lost!  Thankfully my databases where left untouched so the blog is back up and running.  However I did loose my themes and stuff I’d been working on.  The moral of the story, BACKUP!!!!!

181 Out Of 234

I recently took my server down an decided to make it a Gentoo box.  The ATI guide was very helpful and the install was painless.  Now comes the fun part.  Emerging Gnome.  I started this at 8:00 last night and I’m now on ebuild 181 of 234.  Not too bad.

Dave Ramsey

This guy rocks!  Plain and simple.  I’ve been listening to Dave Ramsey for over two weeks now and I love his show.  Dave gives out finacial advice that works!  He’s not a get rich quick guy, or a consolidate your bills clown.  He’s a down to earth guy who has hit rock bottom and knows what he did wrong.  He’s getting paid to give out his adivce now.  I just borrowed his book, The Total Money Makeover, from our friends and I’m enjoying it thus far.  I don’t care if your filthy rich or dirt poor.  Read the book and do what it says.  Stephanie and I are not either rich nor poor.  We make good money, priase the Lord, and we manage it well.  But after listening to this guy you’ll realize that you can do more than what you’re already doing.

I’m Still Around

Man, it’s been a week since my last blog.  Let just say that I’ve been really busy as of late and haven’t had any time to work on the site, blog, or game!  Prayerfully this week will be the last week like that.  Updates are on the way…really.

Updates Are Fun

I’m currently in the process of overhauling my site. So far its going well. I have separated the blog, forum, personal calendar, etc into their own sections and managed to move the databases without too much complication. The icons that I’m using on the main page work great but unfortunately IE can’t handle transparent png files. Joy. So now I’m at a crossroad. Drop the icons or drop the transparency. My first choice is to harp on Microsoft to fix this bug. It’s been around for a LONG TIME but I think they’re just going to make most people wait until IE7 gets released or force them to use a fix. (Don’t “upgrade” to IE7. Lots of bugs!!!)  This is why if you’re viewing this page in IE you need to upgrade to Fire Fox.  Click on the link or on the little add on the bottom left of the screen.

Aside from the look of the website I’m planning on posting up a lot of the code that I’ve written.  Being a programmer you write a bunch of code that can be useful many places and situations so why not share it?  Also, I’m planning on moving the photo album out of the blog and have a custom script pull everything from Flickr.  Problem is time.  I really don’t have any time to do all this but I’ll get it done somehow.

A Fed-Ex Package From UPS

It’s in. I just got my new WD Raptor hard drive from Newegg. Right now I’m installing this bad boy and it’s fast. Gotta love 10000RPM! I did find it interesting that the package was delivered by UPS but came in a Fed-Ex box?! Conspiracy? No. Coincidence. I hope so for the UPS guy.
