The 40 Year Old Virgin

Last night Stephanie and I watched The 40 Year Old Virgin.  I’ve heard that the movie was good but a little vulgar.  That is an understatement.  The movie was funny but very vulgar.  My expectations where something more American Pie-ish where the guys are trying to get laid but go through some funny sense and there’s mild language.  The 40 Year Old Virgin made no such effort to tone it down.  I hear more “f__ this” and “f__ that” than on an episode of the Ozbornes!  I was ROFL during most of the movie but like I said, it could have been just as funny without all the cursing.  In movies there are two types of cursing.  Cursing during the moment due to whats going on and cursing just for cursing sake.  The 40 Year Old Virgin was cursing just for the sake of cursing….

Lazy Sunday

I saw this the other day at a friends house and thought it was great.  If you haven’t seen it yet, watch it!

And Now I Know

I’ve always looked at Flash as something that can be time consuming but not too complicated. Having used Dreamweaver and Fireworks I figured Flash would be just as easy to use and that any respectable Flash designer could whip out a fancy animation in no time flat. That was before I hade to make changes to an existing flash file. Let’s just say that I now have more respect for Flash designers. You have to be very meticulous to be one of ‘them’. Frame by frame, layer by layer. It’s no wonder you guys get paid so much.

I Want! I Want!

I saw this the other day, Friday afternoon to be exact but haven’t gotten around to blogging about it. Dell has released a 30-inch monitor for sale to the masses. The monitor is pretty much a direct competitor to Apple’s 30-inch HD monitor.  Obviously the monitor requires a powerful graphics card, one with two outputs to be specific, so that could potentially drive up the price a little.  Speaking of price, it starts at $2199!  Better start saving now!  Oh, almost forgot to mention.  If you’re interested Dell will also be selling a high end XPS system in the spring.  It’s a dual core P4 EE overclocked to 4.26GHz with quad Nvidia 7800 SLI!  That’s right quad SLI.  Tom’s Hardware did a review on this a while back and needless to say this will box will rock!

I’ve Seen It All!

Tom’s Hardware has always been a great source to checkout for the latest reviews of Mobo’s, graphic cards, and other stuff.  Today they have an interesting article about a Strip Out the Fans, Add 8 Gallons of Cooking Oil.  ???  Excuse me, did you just say cooking oil?  Yes, that’s right, cooking oil.  Check out the article, they even have a video that goes along with it so you can see what they did.  Pretty cool.

Google’s At It Again

I just downloaded the Google Pack, a set of applications and tools that is packaged and managed by Google, and so far so good.  There’s nothing really breathtaking about the programs in the pack;  FireFox, Adobe 7, Trillian, all the Google apps, and some others.  It’s just nice to see that some of the good things that any self respecting geek uses, FireFox and Ad-Aware to name a few, are now being advertised by Google.  Since almost 100% of the online community know what Google is and usually like to see what they suggest we might actually get more people using these tools.  I can see it know, John Q’s Grandma is now going to Google and saying, “What’s this FireFox thing?”  One thing that’s interesting to note is that pack is managed by a Google Updater.  The updater is nothing more than a small application that manages the installed applications, even if you already have some of the applications already installed.  I had the old version of the Google Toolbar for IE installed and it notified my that a new version was available.  All in all it’s worth a look, especially the Google Pack Screensaver!

It’s Great To Be Sore

This past Thursday I joined the Spectrum, a fitness club based out of San Antonio. I choose the Spectrum based on a couple of reasons. First off they have a location right by our house and another right by the office. Convenience is a wonderful thing :). Secondly they had the best New Years deal. To be honest I don’t make New Years Resolutions simply because I know I won’t keep it. I’ve been wanting to join a gym/fitness club for about 2 months now but I knew that the best rates/deals would only come at the first of the year. The third reason I joined Spectrum is because all my friends that go to the Spectrum rave about it.

SSL Certificates & IIS

I’ve never really used SSL in a developer/web master sense and I find it to be very cumbersome. Don’t get me wrong. I love the fact that I can securely buy something online and that certificates verify that http://www.newegg.com/ is in fact NewEgg and not some site in Europe ready to steal some information. In the last few days I’ve read up on how it works and how to set it up with Microsoft IIS 6.0 and it can be a pain!

The Vince Young Show

Well, they managed to pull it off. The Longhorns beat the Trojans in a literally last minute drive lead by Vince Young. On a 4th and 5 play from about the 11 yard line with 20+ seconds left Young shuffled and then “walked” right into the end zone! There is a lot of hype flying around Vince Young and for good reason. He is a great QB and what I really love about him is that he’s HUMBLE!!!!! He’s not one of those “I did it all by myself” type like TO. Speaking of which, I’m glad Phili canned him a couple weeks ago. I pity any team that picks him up. Congrats to the UT Longhorns.
